Well...this is annoying.
I can not coax the State of the Union address to stream to my laptop. (The poor thing crashed once, and now will not buffer enough video for smooth playback.) Our new television service provides 250 channels of Hollywood Novocaine, but requires a subscription to see the State of the Union address. (wtf?) I’ll just watch it on youtube tomorrow I guess. bummer

Aid and Comfort to the Enemy

The next SOPA
The MPAA studios hate us. They hate us with region locks and unskippable screens and encryption and criminalization of fair use. They see us as stupid eyeballs with wallets, and they are entitled to a constant stream of our money. They despise us, and they certainly don’t respect us.
Yet when we watch their movies, we support them.
Even if we don’t watch their...

My mom was about 10 when she grabbed her sister (younger) and made the trip by themselves to the United States of America. What they fled was a devastating civil war. I don’t believe that they’re criminals because of their actions, how many 10 year olds would even make that trip?

Theft of books digitally is in no way the same thing as a library. The number of people who have to drive to the library and check out a physical book one at a time is not even remotely comparable to the thousands, if not tens of thousands, of people who can download the digital copy of a book from the comfort of their homes from a...

Is protest an "abuse of power"?
wilwheaton:
SOPA lives—and MPAA calls protests an “abuse of power”
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has looked at tomorrow’s “Internet blackout” in opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)—and it sees only a “gimmick,” a “stunt,” “hyperbole,” “a dangerous and troubling development,” an...

All the news from Amarillo
Dad is not well, but he’s getting better.
My Stepmom had told me that Dad had only moderate bruising on his left side, so that was not so bad. But he had contracted pneumonia, and that was serious. When I spoke to him by phone on Wednesday he sounded as if he were straining to talk though a liter of water. When I finally got to see him on Saturday he was taking breathing treatments, and...

Family Illness
My Dad took a tumble off of his back porch on Christmas. An ambulance had to be called, and he is presently in the hospital in Amarillo. Yvonne and I are going to see him this weekend. Our Stepmom says he is in a rough way, but he will probably bounce back.
So I’ll catch up with y’all about Tuesday.
