Professor Stands, Produces Results From Back Pocket

…the sociologist James Lindgren, currently professor at Northwestern University, has a forthcoming article that comprehensively reviews all the evidence on [the] question: “What Drives Views on Government Redistribution and Anti-capitalism?”

Inter alia, people who are anti-capitalism and pro-government redistribution are:

less educated

less likely to give anything to charity

less likely to engage in altruistic behavior

less likely to support free speech

more racist

more intolerant of gays

more intolerant of atheists

more angry, revengeful, and pessimistic

To quote Lindgren’s conclusion [emphasis mine]:

Those who support capitalism and freer markets and oppose greater income redistribution tend to be better educated, to have higher family incomes, to be less traditionally racist, and to be less intolerant of unpopular groups. Those who oppose greater redistribution also tend to be more generous in donating to charities and more likely to engage in some other altruistic behavior.

imall4frogs notes: Professor Lindgren’s findings so surprised me that I was compelled to seek independent verification of his results. After playing phone-tag with various Deans and Chairpersons who by turns urged me to “find a hobby” or “get a life”, I finally found a sociologist willing to go on record.

Dr. Al B. Whipped chairs the Department of Sociology and Home Economics at Silo Tech in Dumas, Texas. Dr. Whipped confimed Lindgren’s findings, and added a couple of surprises all his own. From our phone interview:

“When compared to their pro-government contemporaries, free-market enthusiasts were four times more likely to smell nice. Additionally, when held against a sample of the general population, as a group free-market enthusiasts were better in bed.”

Well…for the moment words fail me. X-D
